WASHINGTON, D.C. -- This week's Opening Act is Encore Chorale. Encore Creativity for Older Adults, a 501(c)(3) non-profit that provides an artistic environment for older adults, presented their choir, Encore Chorale, at the Millennium Stage at the Kennedy Center to perform a variety of holiday music last Friday.

Encore serves over 1,000 singers who are over the age of 55 in Virginia, Maryland, and D.C. from beginning to advanced levels. They have 15 Encore Chorales, five Encore ROCKS, and 11 affiliate chorales nationally.

Encore is a place where older adult singers improve their voices, meet new friends, and challenge themselves by preparing music to sing at various community concerts in the Baltimore/Washington area. Some of the skills taught at Encore include vocal technique, proper breathing, and posture. Encore believes that choral singing improves and sustains physical, mental, and social health among older adults.

On 12/22/17, Encore Chorale performed some holiday classics at the John F. Kennedy Center on the Millennium Stage. The Millennium stage is now celebrating their 21st season and welcomes all to celebrate cultural heritage in the most inclusive, accessible way possible. The Millennium Stage is the only place in the U.S. that offers a free performance every day of the year that is streamed on the Internet.

There are no auditions for the Encore Chorale, and more information can be found at or by calling 301-261-5747.
