Fatal Accident Involving a 3 year-old Pedestrian

BALTIMORE, MD. – On Tuesday around 5:00 p.m., officers responded to the 2800 block of Pelham Avenue for a pedestrian who had been struck by a motor vehicle.

Upon arrival, officers found Baltimore City Medics rendering aid to a 3 year-old male. The driver of the vehicle that hit the victim remained at the scene.

The victim was transported to Johns Hopkins Pediatrics, suffering from serious head injuries. On Wednesday, 3 year-old Carter Dinkins of the 2800 block of Pelham Avenue died as a result of his injuries.

Preliminary investigation revealed the striking vehicle, a 2014 Volkswagen Jetta, was traveling eastbound in the 2800 block of Pelham Avenue when Carter Dinkins ran out into the roadway, in front of the vehicle. At that time, the vehicle struck the child.

Crash Team Investigators have concluded that this accident occurred as a result of pedestrian error.
