Rebecca D. Briones

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — A woman has been charged with second-degree murder and child abuse after her daughter’s death in February of this year.

Rebecca Briones, 31, was arrested on Wednesday for the death of her infant daughter, Lissana Briones, on February 21.

Briones called 911 on February 18 to report that her daughter was unresponsive. The baby was taken to a local hospital, where she died four days later.

In September, the chief medical examiner ruled that Lissana’s death was a homicide caused by multiple blunt force injuries. Police interviewed Briones on December 11, and they say that she admitted to shaking Lissana on February 18, and throwing her onto the bed.

Police also said that Briones confessed to abusing Lissana similarly on three previous occasions.

Briones is charged with one count each of second-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death.
