Manassas Uber driver arrested for sexually assaulting 22-year-old passenger

WOODBRIDGE, Va. - Prince William County Police say they arrested a 37-year-old Uber driver for sexually assaulting a 22-year-old woman passenger.

Police say they arrested Cristian Yovani Zelda Avalo on Monday night after investigating the assault. He is being held without bond pending his court appearance.

According to their investigation, the woman requested that an Uber pick her up from a location in Manassas and take her to a home in Woodbridge.

During the ride, around 3:15 a.m., police say Zelda Avalo held the woman down in the vehicle while sexually assaulting her in the Dale City area of Woodbridge.

They say she was able to text a friend to come meet her at the home. When she arrived, she was able to get away from Zelda Avalo, and he left the area.

Police say the were able to locate Zelda Avalo at his home in Manassas City and arrested and charged him.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Uber says:

“This report is appalling and our thoughts are with the rider during this difficult time. The driver has been removed from the app and we’ll work to help police in any way we can with their investigation.”
