UPPER MARLBORO, Md. -- Some of the best young football players in the Metro area are ramping up their practice schedule and taking the field with their season rivals for a chance a Youth Football League national championship.
The tournament will take a couple of teams to Florida to play in a tournament the first week in December. The winners of those tournaments in the 10 and under and 12 and under divisions will be able to call themselves the best in the nation.
The 12 and under teams from the Metro area have won two of those championships in the last three years.
Preparing for tournament means the players are devoting more time to the practice field (2 hours at a time, 4 days a week) and learning to gel with players they called rivals during the season.
