UPDATE:   A retired Navy veteran was arrested for the kidnapping of Ashanti M. Billie. Eric Brian Brown, 45, allegedly abducted Bille as she arrived for work at Blimpie’s restaurant on September 18th.

Court documents show that Brown, who was in the Navy for 21 years, was a day laborer and had helped in the construction of the Blimpie Restaurant this past summer. Co-workers of Billie claim they saw Brown trying to flirt with and making crude comments to her on several occasions. It is believed that Brown was homeless at the time and worked at the 24-hour laundromat that was located next door to the restaurant.

Brown is currently in custody and is looking at a maximum penalty of life in prison if convicted.

NORFOLK, Va. – An arrest has been made in the murder of a 19-year-old who was last seen in a military base in Virginia and then found dead in North Carolina. Our sister station, WTKR, confirmed that information through the girl’s family.

Ashanti Billie was last seen in Norfolk on September 18th around 4 a.m. at the Midtown at Town Center Apartmetn in the 4400 block of Bonney Road. She never showed up for work or attended her scheduled classes. On September 30, the FBI confirmed that her body had been found behind the East Stonewall AME Zion Church in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Police said Billie was considered a missing person under suspicious circumstances due to the uncharacteristic behavior of her not showing up to work or school. Her father, Meltony Billie, told WTKR that his daughter’s cellphone was found in a dumpster.

Ashanti Billie’s parents, both veterans, live in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.
