Two killed in Frederick car accident

FREDERICK COUNTY, Md. — A Pennsylvania man and woman died yesterday after a car they were in was involved in a two-car accident on Sabillasville Road in Thurmont.

Hilda Ditch, 84, was in the front passenger seat at the time of the crash, and was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver, Richard Ditch, 85, was flown to Baltimore Shock Trauma and pronounced dead of his injuries.

The third occupant, John Ditch, 54, was also taken to Baltimore Shock Trauma with non-life threatening injuries. The three were all from Waynesboro, PA.

Maryland State Police report the accident occurred when the driver lost control while negotiating a sharp downhill curve, then swerved into the northbound lane and was struck on the front passenger side by a pickup truck. The driver of the pickup, Michael Miller of Frederick, was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
