Police: Woman pulled into woods, sexually assaulted near Gaithersburg bus stop

GAITHERSBURG, Md. – Montgomery County Police say they are investigating a sexual assault and possible rape that happened Friday morning.

Police say the victim was approached around 5:30 a.m., while waiting for a bus at a stop located on Watkins Mill Road at Travis Lane.

They say she was approached by a man described as a black male, in his twenties, wearing a dark-colored, checkered shirt or jacket.

Police say the man acknowledged the victim’s presence and then grabbed her and pulled her toward a wooded area next to the bus stop.

They believe the suspect then sexually assaulted the victim and fled from the area.

The victim then ran from the area and called police.

Police say they received her call around 6:12 a.m. and Sixth District officers, Gaithersburg police officers, and K9 units responded to the scene.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Police say this is an ongoing investigation and they are asking anyone who may have information about this sexual assault to call the Special Victims Investigations Division at 240-773-5050.
