Ashanti Billie

NORFOLK, Va. — The FBI has confirmed that a body found behind a church in North Carolina has been positively identified as Ashanti Billie, missing from Norfolk since September 18.

“It is with deep regret that I inform the community that Ashanti Billie has been located, deceased, in Charlotte, North Carolina. I, along with the entire investigative team, offer our most sincere condolences to the Billie family, especially Ashanti’s parents Brandy and Tony,” said Martin Culbreth, Special Agent in Charge of the Norfolk FBI division. “Our thoughts and prayers are with you.”

The body was found on Friday, and Billie’s family headed to North Carolina to identify her remains. She was discovered behind the East Stonewall AME Zion Church in west Charlotte.

Billie, who was last seen around 4 a.m. Monday at the Midtown at Town Center Apartments in the 4400 block of Bonney Road, never showed up for work or attended her scheduled classes.

Police said Billie was considered a missing person under suspicious circumstances due to the uncharacteristic behavior of her not showing up to work or school. Her father, Meltony Billie, told WTKR that his daughter’s cellphone was found in a dumpster.

He said that she moved to the area in August to attend culinary school. Her parents, both veterans, live in Maryland.
