FALLS CHURCH, Va. – Around 4:50 Wednesday afternoon Fairfax County Police received a call of an active shooter situation in a building off Gatehouse Road, adjacent to the Gatehouse Administration Center.

The building also houses a daycare, which had many parents concerned for the safety of their children.

"Oh, it was very terrifying, very shocking.", said Khyuti Patel as she held her daughter’s hand while walking to her car.

Praj Jajveri, also a parent, said he was alerted via email.

"I had to get over to the school as soon as possible. We got rerouted several times and my heart was pounding.", he said.

The children in the daycare were bussed over to Luther Jackson Middle School to reunite with their parents.

According to police, the shooting happened on the fourth floor of the building near a law office.
The suspect was the only victim, who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No one else was injured.

“We are thankful that this event did not crest any other injuries to anyone in the building or in our community.”, said Fairfax Police Chief Edwin Roessler.

Police are still investigating what the motive was behind Tuesday’s shooting.

The lone gunman’s identity has not yet been released.
