FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — Police are warning of an insidious phone scam where the scammers ‘spoof’ the phone number of the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office and call residents, telling them they’ve missed jury duty.

The scammers claim to be deputies and order victims to make good on alleged court costs and fines by sending in store gift cards, pre-paid debit cards or money orders.

If you received a jury duty summons and want to confirm it, you can contact the Circuit Court jury duty clerk at 703-246-7816 (press 0). If you think you might be the victim of a scam, please file a report online with the Financial Crimes Section here or call 703-691-2131.
