FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — A security guard shot a man with a knife outside the Gum Springs Community Center on Thursday, according to police.
Detectives say that the security guard approached the man near a baseball diamond about his two unsecured dogs. The security guard was concerned about the loose dogs interacting with children who would soon be arriving nearby to attend a daycare center.
The situation escalated from there, and detectives say that the man came aggressively toward the security guard with a knife. The guard shot the man once. Injured, the man got in his car and drove away; the guard called his license plate number in to 911.
Police report they shortly after found the suspect outside a home in the 2800 block of Joseph Makell Court, lying on the ground and suffering from a gunshot wound. Animal Control secured the dogs, and the man was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No charges have been filed so far.
