PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY – The Prince George’s County Cold Case Unit detectives charged a suspect in from a 2009 homicide investigation in Landover. The suspect is 27 year-old Larry Recio. According to the PGPD, Recio is from Lanham but is currently in the custody of the Hazelton Federal Correctional Institution in West Virginia on unrelated charges.

On June 2, 2009, around 11:45 pm, patrol officers were called to the 9000 block of Continental Place for the report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they discovered four victims outside who had suffered gunshot wounds. One of the victims who was shot, Shai Caldwell, 19,  of Windflower Way in Bowie died of her injuries several hours later. Caldwell was not an intended victim, according to the PGPD. The other three victims did survive their injuries.

Detectives turned to Recio as their suspect and subsequently charged him in this case based on information from witnesses and evidence linking him to the shootings. The investigation reveals the victims were attending a graduation celebration the night of the shootings. Detectives believe the suspect had been in an ongoing dispute with another group of males when the incident occurred.
