ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. – Police are investigating a murder-suicide after a party turned deadly in Edgewater on Friday night.

According to Anne Arundel County Police, they were called to the 300 block of Dawnwood Drive for a shooting around 10:45 p.m.

Their investigation revealed that Russell Ramey, 45, who lived at the home, shot Devin Hayes, 24, with a handgun, then turned the gun on himself.

Hayes was from Pasadena, Maryland. Police say Ramey was a Navy Veteran.

Lieutenant Glenn Shanahan tells DCW50 the two knew each other well and they believe the shooting was a result of an argument.

The victim’s brother was inside the home and five others were in the basement.

He says they ran to nearby bushes when Ramey came back into the basement with a gun.

Neighbors say Ramey was quiet and kept to himself, but often had parties and friends over on the weekends.

“It breaks my heart, takes your breath away when you hear something like that,” says a neighbor, who asked DCW50 to keep her anonymous.

Police say that there is no threat to the community, and homicide detectives will continue to investigate.
