WASHINGTON, D.C. — People are reaching out in support of DCFD’s Engine Company #3 after they had a long night that saw one of their firefighters, Dane Smothers Jr., being critically injured while fighting a fire in Northeast.

Chief of Police Peter Newsham said in a tweet, “Wishing our brother, Firefighter Smothers, a speedy recovery,” and Capitol Police brought pizza to Eng. 3 this morning in support of their hard work.

Firefighters battled three fires on Wednesday, two in Northeast and one in Northwest. Another firefighter besides Smothers was injured, and evaluated by EMS. Two police officers were also injured overnight in one of the fires in Northeast.

Later in the day, members of Recruit Class 380 dropped off donuts and coffee at Engine 3 in a show of support for Smothers.
