MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — A 21-year-old Germantown man has been arrested and charged with second-degree rape, with police claiming he took a 13-year-old girl to a hotel and engaged in sex acts with her.

Charles Ebenezer Berry Jr. was arrested on Thursday after a search warrant was issued last week. The victim’s parents had reported her missing on June 23, and the next day, she called them and told them she was at an Extended Stay America Hotel in Germantown.

The victim’s family members drove to the hotel and brought her back to Washington County, then reported the incident to the sheriff’s office. Law enforcement investigated, and identified Berry Jr. as the man the victim had been at the hotel with.

Detectives from the special victims division of Montgomery County Police interviewed the victim, and she told them that Berry Jr. had been communicating with her on Instagram and Snapchat since she was 12. She said they had met previously, and he knew she was 13.

She then went on to say that Berry Jr. had picked her up from her home on the evening of June 23 and took her to the hotel to engage in sex acts.

Police got a warrant for Berry Jr.’s arrest and picked him up near his home on July 27. He is being held without bond.

Police think that there may be other victims in this case, and ask that anyone who believes that their child may have corresponded with and/or met with Berry Jr. is asked to contact the Special Victims Investigations Division at 240-773-5400.
