WASHINGTON, D.C. — The MPD has released a statement saying an Internal Affairs investigation is underway regarding an allegation that one of their officers struck a young boy who was on his bicycle.

The incident took place on Thursday, June 29 around 7:45 p.m. in the 700 block of Otis Place in Northwest.

“An 11-year-old was operating a bicycle when he reportedly ran off the roadway and struck the wall of an alley,” stated the MPD. “After striking the wall, the 11-year-old claimed an MPD cruiser, being operated by a Fourth District patrol officer, struck the rear tire of his bicycle, causing damage to it.

While we are glad the juvenile was not seriously injured in this incident, we are taking these allegations involving one of our officers extremely seriously. MPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau is conducting a full investigation to determine exactly what happened and whether proper procedures were followed.”
