One person killed in crash with vehicle pulling horse trailer

AMELIA COUNTY, Va. — The driver of a Chevy Impala is dead after he pulled out in front of a pickup that was pulling a horse trailer and unable to stop.

The crash took place around noon on Sunday afternoon. The Impala pulled out from Whitaker Road into the path of the pickup on Route 360; the pickup’s driver, Barbara Learned, couldn’t stop and struck the Impala in the driver’s side door.

Learned, 60, was taken to Swift Creek ER with non-life threatening injuries. Her horse was uninjured. The driver of the Impala, Brent Mast, 20, died at the scene. His passenger was flown to VCU Medical Center for serious injuries.

Everyone involved was wearing seatbelts, and there are no charges in the crash.
