18-year-old injured in officer involved shooting

MANASSAS, Va. – The Prince William County Police Department is investigating a shooting that involved the Manassas City Police.

According to officials, Manassas City Police initially responded to a report of a shots fired within city limits. They located a vehicle that had possibly been involved in that initial call and attempted to carry out a traffic stop. The vehicle did not stop and a pursuit ensued. Manassas City Police crossed into Prince William County, where the vehicle eventually stopped inside of Hellwig Memorial Park. During this incident, officers shot the 18-year-old driver.

Police say the driver was flown to an area hospital with serious injuries. There was also a juvenile passenger in the vehicle; they were not injured during the incident. Officials also reported that no officers were injured.

Prince William County Police were not involved in the initial pursuit or the shooting, according to officials. At this time, Prince William County Police are investigating the criminal aspect of the shooting. Manassas City Police Internal Affairs will be handling the administrative aspect of the incident.
