MTPD makes quick arrest in robbery

WASHINGTON, DC — The Metro Transit Police Department made a robbery arrest within minutes. The department is thanking its state-of-the-art Security Operations Control Center for the quick arrest.

Police say they got a called around 1:04 p.m. Monday for a robbery that happened on the platform at Congress Heights Station. Police say the victim told them that the suspect approached her, implied he had a weapon and demanded money.

Immediately, SOCC began tracking the suspect using surveillance cameras at Green Line stations in an attempt to find him.

Police say within seven minutes after the initial call came in they found a man matching the suspect’s description. Detectives say that man was getting off a Metrorail system at Suitland Station. The information was passed down to MTPD patrol officers who searched the area and found the 20-year-old in the bus bay at the station aboard a Metrobus that was ready to depart.

Officers arrested Donnell Floyd Brown for armed robbery. Police say the victim positively identified Brown as the suspect.
