WASHINGTON, D.C. — Police have identified the man who was found dead in debris under the Inlet Bridge at the mouth of the Tidal Basin on Saturday morning.

They used identification cards they found on his body to ID him as Tafari Jamal Popo, 21.

An MPD officer was conducting a daily patrol of the park when she saw Popo’s body floating face-down in debris in the water. She called for backup.

Harbor Patrol pulled Popo’s body to the shoreline, and found he was deceased. They took him to the medical examiner, where his cause of death is pending an autopsy.
