UPDATE: Human remains identified in Rockville house explosion

ROCKVILLE, MD —  The Medical examiner has identified the human remains found in the home that exploded last week.

The remains belong to Steven Martin Beck, 61, the medical examiner ruled his death a suicide by a gunshot wound. A dog was also found next to Beck’s remains in the basement. The dog was also killed by a gunshot wound.

The home in 114000 block of Ashley Drive exploded on Friday, March 17, around 12:51 a.m., crews scoured through rubble for a day before finding human remains.

The house was in foreclosure and was set to be auctioned later Friday.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue, the office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF)are investigating what led to the blast.
