Uber passenger charged with abducting driver in Virginia

PRINCE WILLIAM CO., VA —   An Uber driver was abducted by passenger on Tuesday afternoon, according to Prince William County Police.

Detectives say the 26-year-old picked up Harpreet Singh Sandhu, in the area of Minnieville Road near Cardinal Drive in Woodbridge shortly before 1 p.m..  Shortly after getting in the Uber, the driver told police she noticed Sandhu had drugs, and a large amount of money. Immediately, she demanded Sandhu to get out of the car but he refused, according to the statement.

Instead, police say, he asked her to drive to different locations.

During the encounter the driver, called her friend who called police and alerted them of the abduction. Officers swarmed the area in Minnieville Road and General Washington Dr., and arrested the passenger. Officers say they found marijuana, prescription drugs, and money.

Sandhu was was charged with abduction, possession with intent to distribute a schedule IV narcotic, and possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

He’s being held without bond. His court hearing is set for May 1, 2017.
