PRINCE GEORGE’S CO., MD — A Greenbelt man is facing 12 charges ranging from burglary and resisting arrest.

Detectives say Sherrod Weaver hid in the AMC Academy 8 at Beltway Plaza, Tuesday afternoon, after officers tried arresting the 26-year-old following a burglary.

Officers had been keeping an eye on Weaver and even recorded him breaking into a home in Laurel.  Aerial video shows the suspect pulling up behind a townhome, going inside and taking several items before driving away.

Investigators say the homeowners were not home during the burglary.

In a press release, investigators said that when officers tried to arrest Weaver, he threw a large, stolen TV at an officer, knocking the officer to the ground. The officer has minor injuries and is expected to be okay. That’s when detectives say Weaver sprinted across the street into a movie theater on Beltway Plaza and barricaded himself in the theater’s ceiling for three hours.

There were multiple officers, including the Greenbelt City Police Department, inside the theater with fire department personnel on scene.

Weaver is facing a slew of charges including: burglary, second degree assault on a law enforcement officer, theft, destruction of property, and vandalism.

He’s being held at the Department of Corrections on a combined bond of $100,000. At the time of his arrest, Prince George’s County says Weaver had two open warrants for violation of probation related to previous burglary convictions.
