Pedestrian collision in Reston leaves one dead

RESTON, Va. – The Fairfax County Police Department reports that one pedestrian was killed after being struck by a vehicle Thursday evening in Reston, Virginia.

According to police, the incident happened Thursday evening around 6:20 p.m. A preliminary investigation revealed that a 57-year-old woman, identified as Asress Gobena Lakew, was struck by attempting to cross Reston Parkway near South Lakes Drive. She was not in crosswalk and was struck by a Jeep Wrangler that was traveling southbound. The driver of the Jeep, a 30-year-old, remained on the scene and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries by medics.

Detectives responded to the area to investigate. At this time, police do not believe that speed nor alcohol were factors in this accident. However, the investigation is currently ongoing.
