LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. — A 16-year-old boy is facing five felony counts after police say he filmed his classmates in the locker room, school bathroom and at school events.

The boy, a Freedom High School student whose name can’t be released because of his age, was charged on Friday. Two of the felony counts he received were related to ‘upskirting’, when someone’s genitals or underwear are filmed from below without their knowledge or consent.

Police didn’t specify the nature of the filming in the other charges, but did say he had been arrested for filming his classmates in “various” stages of undress. All five of the felony counts were for unlawfully filming persons under the age of 18. Police report that other charges may be forthcoming.

They say he used a “small device” to commit these crimes. Police were alerted on Feb. 8 by a student who said they believed they were being recorded by another student while in the bathroom. School personnel contacted police to investigate further.

Detectives have identified several of the victims and notified everyone they’ve been able to identify so far. They say there’s no sign the videos have been distributed.

The suspect is currently being held in a juvenile detention center.
