UPDATE: Police investigate officer-involved shooting in Southeast DC

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Southeast on Tuesday morning.

Police have identified the suspect as 50-year-old Eric Cuthbertson. He’s being charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (gun), armed robbery, and assault on  a police officer while armed.

According to officials, the Cuthbertson robbed a woman in the 1300 block of Good Hope Road on Tuesday Morning. Property was taken and the suspect was armed during that robbery and fled, police say. Several witnesses flagged down police officers who were near by. Police say that the officers were able to find the suspect. When they asked him to drop his weapon, he did not comply. Shots were fired, and the Cuthbertson was wounded. He was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Police say a BB gun was recovered on the scene. No pedestrians or officers were injured during the incident.

The officer involved in the shooting is on administrative leave, this is protocol according to the MDP policy.

According to police, the investigation into this incident is still ongoing.
