Pedestrian struck and killed in Northwest, DC

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred Monday night in Northwest, D.C.

According to officials, a woman, who has been identified as the 65-year-old Carolyn Ellis, was on the south side of U Street near 10th Street in Nothwest, D.C. Police say she was walking north across the westbound traffic lanes in a marked crosswalk. She was struck by a 2016 black Nissan Versa that was traveling westbound in the 900 block of U Street, Northwest. The victim was transported to an area hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

The vehicle sustained damage to the front bumper, front windshield, and both side view mirrors. Officers canvassed the surrounding area for the driver and police say they arrested 36-year-old David Jones. He has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, driving under the influence, and other related charges.
