WASHINGTON, D.C. -- We caught up with former American Idol contestant, singer-songwriter Casey McQuillen, when she played at Jammin' Java.

McQuillen hails from Boston originally, and recently released a new album. She says her music delves into issues of heartbreak, personal struggle, and growth. You can find out more about her music here.

She was at Jammin' Java to perform, but also Mid-Atlantic Song Contest Awards Ceremony that was hosted there, where she accepted the first place award for Best Pop Song.

Since her American Idol debut, McQuillen says she's been using her talents to help over 40,000 students battle bullying, self-doubt, and mental health issues.

Jammin' Java is a music venue in Vienna that is also a coffee shop and a restaurant.
