PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. — A man has been charged with theft by deception after police say he tried to sell fake gold to an off-duty cop.

Laurentiun Miclescu, 33, reportedly approached an officer in a shopping center parking lot, told him he had lost his credit card and offered to sell him gold in exchange for cash.

The officer knew of a fake gold scam running in Prince George’s, and detained Miclescu, who was interviewed and cited.
