Alexandria man convicted in July 2015 homicide

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — A man has been convicted on two felony counts related to a homicide that happened in the city of Alexandria last year.

Rashad Adkins, 22, was convicted by a jury of murder in the second degree and use of a firearm in commission of a murder.

The crime took place in the 700 block of North Fayette Street. Adkins got in an argument with the victim, Shakkan Elliott-Tibbs, which turned physical. Adkins then pulled out a .40 handgun and shot Tibbs four times.

Adkins fled, and Tibbs died of his injuries soon after.

The jury is still deliberating on what sentence to suggest the court hand down to Adkins.
