PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. — Police are reporting that a Suitland High School student was wounded today after leaving campus with a group of other students and being shot by one of them with a handgun.

The student with the gun fired multiple shots, with one stray bullet going through the window of a classroom that had two people in it and becoming lodged in the ceiling, injuring neither of them.

According to police, the shooting occurred after the students gathered at an apartment complex nearby school property and two of the students got into an argument. The suspect pulled out a handgun and fired off several shots.

The wounded student was struck in the leg, and police say his injuries are non-life-threatening. The victim was helped back to campus, and they flagged down a school administrator, who called the police. Detectives and officers arrived and placed the school on temporary lockdown.

Detectives believe the shooter fled the area. An active search is currently underway.
