FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — Santa and his elves will ditch the sled and reindeer for a motorcycle and police escort today as he travels around Fairfax County, delivering toys to children in hospitals.

Since 1988, Fairfax County police, the sheriff’s office, Virginia State police, Herdon police and other local agencies have been coming together to escort Santa on his annual “Ride for Children”.

During the second week of December, Santa collected toys donated at police stations, Fairfax County Public Schools, and other government facilities.

On Dec. 12, he will go around to INOVA Children’s Hospital and Georgetown Hospital Cancer Center to donate toys to sick kids to help them take their mind off of the treatments they’re undergoing.

Toys will also be donated to local charities like Life with Cancer and the Herndon-Reston F.I.S.H. (Friendly Instant Sympathetic Help).
