Multi-vehicle crash in Gaithersburg leaves two dead

GAITHERSBURG, Md. – The Montgomery County Police Department is investigating a multi-vehicle crash in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The crash, which involved four vehicles, killed two people.

The incident occurred around 7:49 p.m. on Monday night. An off-duty police officer reported that he had come upon a serous four-vehicle crash on Airpark Road in Gaithersburg. When the first responders arrived on the scene, they located two male drivers associated with different vehicles who had succumbed to their injuries on the scene.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Stephen Alexander, 27, was driving east on Airpark Road when his 1999 Honda Civic crossed into the westbound lane. The car struck two vehicles, a 2002 Volkswagen Passat and a 2010 Toyota Prius. A third westbound vehicle, a 1997 Mercury Villager, also became involved in the collision. Steven Diaz and Thomas Carey, the driver of the Volkswagen Passat, were pronounced dead on the scene.
