PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. — Two children under five suffered serious wounds Saturday night when their father stabbed them and then fled the family home, according to police.

Police found the children around 10 p.m. Saturday in their District Heights home and rushed them to the hospital. Both are now in stable condition. Officers took Christian Dillard, 25, into custody and charged him with attempted first degree murder and assault.

Dillard is also charged with the sexual assault of a woman earlier Saturday who he had been previously involved with and who lived in the family home. Police say Dillard fled the home after the assault, escaping police canvassing, then returned to the home later to stab his children.

The children were under the care of other family members at the time. No other family members were hurt in the assault.
