WASHINGTON, D.C. -- An officer with the Metropolitan Police Department was arrested and charged with DUI early this morning after his supervisor smelled alcohol on him.

Officer Arthur Thompson's inebriated state was discovered by a supervisor, who was at the time investigating a citizen complaint against Thompson. A field sobriety test was conducted around 2 a.m. and found him to be under the influence. Thompson was on duty when this happened.

Thompson has been with the MPD for four years. His police powers have been revoked, and this incident is currently being investigated by Internal Affairs.
