MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — Detectives are investigating an assault that occurred at an Olney restaurant early Saturday morning that they say was motivated by homophobia.

Around 3 a.m. at the Greene Turtle bar and restaurant, officers were called to respond to an assault in progress. They found that the suspect, an adult male, had poured a glass of water on two men, called them slurs related to sexual orientation and challenged them to a fight.

Both groups left the restaurant, and a fight broke out in the parking lot. Fire and Rescue took two of the men involved to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives think they’ve identified the suspect who poured water on the victims, but the investigation is ongoing, and they ask anyone with information about this case to call the 4th District Investigative Section at 240-773-5530.
