PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. — Charges against Keenan Fitzgerald regarding a fatal stabbing that happened in October were dropped Thursday because of evidence that showed the incident in question was in self defense.

Keenan Fitzgerald, 27, was involved in a physical fight with another man when the victim approached. Police said their investigation suggested that the victim, 50-year-old Emmanuel Sutton, tried to break up the fight but that story was unfounded in the course of the trial.

Sutton was found by police suffering from severe stab wounds, and taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
