WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National Park Service has announced that the Washington Monument will remain closed for an undetermined amount of time due to issues with the elevator’s reliability.

The agency called it a “difficult decision”. The monument will remain closed to the public until the elevator control system can be modernized.

There is currently no estimate on how long this will take. The agency said they expect to be able to make an announcement on a time frame within the next few weeks.
