ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. — The Board of Education in Anne Arundel has approved a shift in start times beginning the following school year, starting school fifteen minutes later.

Dismissal times will shift fifteen minutes ahead accordingly. The plan will set high schools to start at 7:30 a.m. instead of their current 7:17 a.m. This shift in bus schedules will also require elementary and middle schools to start later.

This shift will go into effect in the 2017-2018 school year. These changes aren’t mandated at Chesapeake Science Point Public Charter School, Monarch Academy Public Charter School, and Monarch Global Contract School, because these schools organize their own transportation arrangements.

The shift will require the purchase of 10 additional buses at a price tag of over $600,000. This money will come from funds already allocated in the approved operating budget.
