Police investigate homicide in Southeast, D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the 600 block of Mellon Street in Southeast, D.C. That incident happened late Thursday night.

According to officials, officers arrived in the area around 11:44 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found an adult male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. Police say the victim has been identified as Darnell Peoples, 35.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia. Police ask that anyone with information about this case call the police at 202-727-9099. Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411.
