UPDATE: Missing Fairfax senior found

UPDATE: James Rufus Thompson, a missing senior citizen from Fairfax County, has been located in Sussex County and is safe, according to Fairfax County Police.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. – State Police has issue a senior alert for a missing 78-year-old man who suffers from cognitive impairment, last seen in Fairfax County.

James Rufus Thompson was last seen on Monday, September 12 around 10 p.m. at 4037 Majestic Lane. Police say his disappearance poses a credible threat to his health and safety as he suffers from a cognitive impairment.

Thompson was last seen wearing a checkered shirt, black pants, and a red, white, and blue ball cap. He also wears glasses. Investigators say he may be operating a 2006 GMC Savanna van, tan in color, with a Virginia registration of vpj-6172.

He is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall, around 1777 pounds, with gray hair and brown eyes.

Police say Thompson has family in both the Norfolk and Virginia Beach areas.
