Zakieya Avery

ROCKVILLE, Md. — A woman who has been called the “exorcism killer” due to the circumstances surrounding the murder of her two children plead guilty in their deaths today.

Zakieya Avery, 31, has plead guilty to first degree murder of two of her children and the attempted murder of her two older children.

Avery’s defense team hopes to get the judge to rule her guilty by reason of insanity when her sentencing comes down this afternoon. Monifa Sanford, her former housemate who pleaded guilty in these murders in 2015, was subsequently committed to a maximum-security psychiatric hospital.

It remains to be seen if Avery herself will be committed, or will face prison time.

This is a developing story. DCW will have the latest on this case tonight at 10.
