FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — A 53-year-old male inmate was found unresponsive early Saturday in the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and was pronounced dead shortly after.

The inmate has not yet been identified. When he was found unresponsive at 6:41 a.m., the sheriff’s office called for help and initiated CPR. Rescue personnel arrived several minutes later, but were unable to revive him.

The deceased had been at the facility for almost exactly one year. In the unit he was incarcerated in, inmates are checked on every half-hour. Authorities continue to investigate the situation but the Fairfax County Police Department states, “Nothing appears suspicious at this time.”
