DC firefighter shot in Southeast D.C.

Fatal shooting in northwest (PHOTO: MGN)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – D.C. Fire and EMS have confirmed that an off-duty firefighter was shot in Southeast Washington, D.C. Saturday. The incident occurred in the 3300 block of Southern Avenue in Southeast.

The Metropolitan Police Department reported that the shooting happened around 4 p.m. on Saturday. According to D.C. Fire and EMS officials, an off-duty firefighter was traveling in his personal vehicle with a family member when the incident took place. He was found to be conscious and breathing when officers arrived and was transported to a local hospital. Officials say that, at this time, he remains in the hospital but is conscious and alert. Police put out a lookout for a red and black motorcycle.

D.C. Fire and EMS reports that the victim is an active firefighter. He is currently assigned to a firehouse in upper Northwest D.C.
