Maryland motorcycle accident kills one

BOWIE, Md. – Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred in the westbound lane of Route 50, near Church Road in Bowie, Maryland. The accident occurred early Sunday morning and left one person dead.

According to police, the operator of a 2015 Kawasaki 636 motorcycle was traveling westbound on Route 50 when he struck a GMC pickup truck traveling in the HOV lane of the road. The motorcycle operator was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the GMC pickup truck was transported to Prince George’s Hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the motorcycle has yet to be identified but, according to officials, is an adult male from Virginia. Police are working with Virginia authorities to notify the man’s family.

Maryland State police have conducted a detailed crash reconstruction. At this time, there is no indication that alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
