Pedestrian crash in Alexandria leaves one dead

ALEXANDRIA, VA – The Alexandria Police Department is investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred near the 100 block of South Fairfax Street on Tuesday.

Officials say that around 10:00 a.m. Tuesday morning police responded to reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle. The preliminary investigation revealed that 92-year-old man was attempting to park his car in a parking lot when he backed into the 49-year-old parking attendant. Shortly after striking the attendant, the driver quickly accelerated forward and struck another pedestrian, a 44-year-old man.

The driver remained on the scene. The parking attendant was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The second victim, identified as Jeremais Herrera Rodriguez according to police, was pronounced dead at the scene.
