Prince George’s Co. Police arrest suspect in homicide of 68-year-old

CAPITOL HEIGHTS, MD – The Prince George’s County Police Department reports that thanks to a citizen tip, they were able to arrest a suspect in connection with Wednesday’s fatal shooting of Alonzo Jackson, 68. The suspect is Demarko Wheeler, 20, of the 2000 block of Stanton Road in Southeast, D.C.

On July 20th, officers arrived in the 4900 block of Marlboro Pike in Capitol Heights to find Alonzo Jackson suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to an area hospital, where he later died.

The preliminary investigation reveals that Jackson had just filled up the gas tank of his car when Wheeler approached him and shot him. Wheeler then took Jackson’s car, which was later recovered in Washington, D.C.

Police say that a tip from a citizen helped detectives identify the suspect who was arrested on Sunday in Washington, D.C. According to officials, Wheeler has been charged with first degree murder, second degree murder, and other related charges. He is currently in the custody of the Metropolitan Police Department and is waiting to be extradited to Prince George’s County.
