Victim in fatal Prince George’s Co. collision identified

PRINCE GEORGE’S CO., MD – The victim of a fatal  pedestrian collision in Hyattsville has been identified, police say.

The victim has has been identified as 20-year-old Santos Udiel Romero of Hyattsville. The crash occurred on Sunday, July 17 in Langley Park. Officials say an officer was traveling westbound in the 2000 block of University Boulevard at about 2:30 a.m. when he struck Romero in the roadway. The officer gave aid to Romero until emergency medical personnel arrived. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

An investigation revealed that two other vehicles nearly struck Romero prior to the officer striking him. Romero was not at a crosswalk when he was struck.
