Fire damages Howard Co. dialysis center

COLUMBIA, MD – A fire in the 5900 block of Harpers Farm Rd. in Columbia, Md. early Monday morning caused damage to a DaVita Dialysis Center, according to Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services.
Around 5:30 a.m. Monday morning, firefighters were alerted to smoke coming from the 5900 block of Harpers Farm Rd.  When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the side of a the building near Lynn’s Day Spa. The units immediately began to work to put out the fire. A second alarm was requested and units from Montgomery County and Prince George’s County arrived to help.

DaVita Dialysis Center, which was located near the fire, sustained light smoke damage. The health department was requested to evaluate the center for re-opening, according to officials.
No injuries were reported. Investigators are working to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
